Stitch TO stitch, with heart, vision, and action.
STITCHTOSTITCH operates with a focused five-year plan designed to remove barriers and grow long-term impact.
STITCHTOSTITCH was launched as a concept in 2014. Two women, Pinkie and Debbie, combined their passion for empowering single, unemployed women and equipping them to become financially independent. Initially, the programme was run on church premises, where the sewing studio had to be dismantled at the end of each week and reassembled at the start of the next. The facility accommodated ten trainees, and all equipment was provided by donors.

DEBBIE SLOANE
Ps. Debbie Sloane, founder of STITCHTOSTITCH, has over 15 years’ experience empowering single, unemployed women through sewing skills for employment and entrepreneurship.

MEET OUR LEADERS
DEBBIE SLOANE
Ps. Debbie Sloane is the founder of the STITCHTOSTITCH skills training programme. With over 15 years experience in starting and overseeing skills training programmes. She has dedicated time and effort to equipping single, unemployed women with practical sewing skills for employment and entrepreneurship.
She established her first skills training programme in Makanda in 2008 which she ran successfully for 5 years. In 2014, with the assistance of her Project Manager Pinkie Luswazi, STITCH TO STITCH (S2S) was started. Their vision was to decrease unemployment in areas like Nyanga, Philippi, Samora Machel and Mfuleni by increasing the skills base of unemployed mothers residing in these areas. Using the concept of Ubuntu as a platform, the project sees a hand up in offering skills at no financial cost to potential trainees as being far more beneficial than a hand out which is a temporary solution. STITCH TO STITCH is run as a registered NPO.
